Businesspeople from around Inverell got into the spirit of giving during the Chamber of Commerce market day, donning their best scrubs and rubber gloves to fundraise for operation Operating Room Ltd.

Volunteers were asking business owners and members of the public to support the charity, which is trying to raise enough money to purchase a Phototherapy machine for the maternity department at Inverell Hospital.

Many business embraced the theme of dressing for the operating room, and the donations came rolling in, with about $1500 raised during the day and final tallies still being totalled. Chairperson of OOR, Cr Di Baker said she was hoping many people would get behind this worthy cause.

"We all want to give our newest residents the best start at life, and the phototherapy unit will help new born babies suffering from jaundice to become healthy.

"We would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for supporting our fundraising efforts and give a big thankyou to the community."

The phototherapy unit costs $8,000 and all donations to OOR are tax deductible, donations can still be made to the appeal at Baker's Barn Saddlery Inverell.
