MADI Davis, top 16 contestant in the current season of Junior Masterchef, has family ties to Inverell.
Glenda Smith, publican of the Australian Hotel, is Madi’s great aunt.
Even though the show has already been recorded, Madi has not been allowed to tell anyone the result so Glenda has had to watch each week to see how she goes.
“She’s done really well so far,” Glenda said.
“She’s cooked a variety of dishes and won a challenge with a Greek dish.”
Glenda said she first noticed Madi’s cooking skill at her brother’s birthday party last year.
“Madi actually made the birthday cake which was really good, and she helped to cook breakfast the next day,” Glenda said.
“I don’t really know how long she’s been cooking but it’s been quite a few years, she’s been helping around the kitchen since a young age.
“I think she must get the talent from her mother, Marty has always liked to fiddle around in the kitchen and that sort of thing.”
With eliminations happening quickly each week from here on in, Glenda said she couldn’t wait to see how Madi will go.
“Next week they’re going out to the country to cook on the farms,” Glenda said.
“It’s really exciting, I’ll be giving her a cheer from home.
“I would definitely say she can go further in the competition.”
