IT had been an ongoing joke for Racquel Fisher’s family that if they won the Inverell Chamber of Commerce Christmas Promotion the kitchen would be their first choice.
And guess what?
Racquel was the lucky winner of the promotion.
But Racquel’s renovations plans had gone ahead and a new kitchen had been installed a week before her name was drawn out as the winner of the promotion.
“It was actually really funny when I received the phone call to tell me I had won,” Racquel said. “So because we already had the kitchen I chose the car. I am just over the moon and I was in shock for about three days.
“It is very exciting. “I only put about half a dozen tickets in, so it just shows, you just have to be in it to win it.”
Racquel picks up her new Holden Barina from Gaukrogers today, but she will have to wait another couple of months before she can drive it without a licensed driver as she only has her learner licence.
“I can handle that though,” she said. “I honestly still can’t believe my name was drawn out because I never win anything. Now I think I have had my good luck for my lifetime.
“I want to thank all the businesses involved and I can’t wait to drive my new car (today).”
Inverell Chamber of Commerce president Anthony Michael said more than 180,000 entries were handed in for the promotion.
“We had an excellent response,” Mr Michael said.
“And because there were so many tickets, a cement truck was used to mix them all up just before the draw.
“We had a few people come down for the draw, which was good to see and Inverell Sapphire City Festival Queen Meg Lamrock drew the lucky winner,” Mr Michael said, and added that the Chamber was happy with the whole promotion.
“We are very appreciative of all the Inverell people who supported local retailers during the Christmas shopping period. We would also like to thank all the businesses who participated to put on the promotion.”
And even though Racquel chose the car as the prize, Mr Michael said it was good to have the selection of items to win this year.
“It drew more interest, which was great,” he said.
