POLICE have confirmed the bus driver killed when a bus and a b-double truck collided on Friday afternoon was 63-year-old Inverell man Neil Harmon.
Police are continuing their inquiries into the fatal collision.
About 3.30pm on Friday, emergency services received reports a westbound b-double truck and eastbound passenger coach had collided on the Gwydir Highway, on the Gibraltar Range, 78km east of Glen Innes.
Police said Mr Harmon, who was the driver of the bus, suffered significant injuries in the crash and died at the scene.
All seven passengers onboard the coach were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Grafton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and shock.
The truck driver, a 56-year-old man, was taken to Glen Innes Hospital for medical checks and mandatory blood and urine tests.
The highway was closed in both directions overnight to allow police from the Oxley Crash Investigation Unit and Forensic Services Group to carry out inquiries at the scene.
NSW Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian has expressed her condolences.
“I extend my sympathy to the family and friends of the driver who worked for a bus company contracted to provide the service to CountryLink,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“My thoughts are also with the injured passengers after this terrible accident.
“The circumstances will be thoroughly investigated.”
Ms Berejiklian said CountryLink staff were offering every possible assistance to passengers, and co-operating with police and other emergency services personnel.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist police with their inquiries is asked to contact Inverell Detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the information of the NSW Coroner.
