It was a fine festival finale

28 Oct, 2009 07:51 AM
The Telstra Wide Sapphire City Festival has finished for another year, with a tremendous finale on Saturday night.

Hannah White was crowned the festival queen in front of a large assembled crowd in Campbell Park, with Kirsty Muggleton crowned the festival princess and Felicity Cleaver crowned junior princess.

More than 50 floats assembled earlier in the day for the parade.

KCL Family Daycare won the float competition with Linking Together Centre runner up and Inverell Public School highly commended.

The 10 days of the festival were marked with sunny weather and excellent turnouts, including the Holy Trinity race day, restoration and preservation expo, fishing expo, art competition and family concert.

The finale is always the jewel in the crown of the festival and this year was no exception with the David Hamilton puppets and Cheerio the Clown kicking off events.

That was followed by the crowning ceremony, the Telstra Road to Tamworth Heats and performances by country music stars Felicity Urquart and Jetty Road.

The night concluded with the fireworks spectacular.

"The whole festival was a great success," Ann Clydesdale from Inverell Tourism said.

"All the events that ran over the 10 days were just marvellous and we had lovely weather, the finale was of course great and the crowds seemed to really enjoy it.

"The fireworks were one of the best lots I have seen as well."

Police praised the crowd’s behaviour yesterday saying it was excellent and added that the festival was a great success.
