The Macintyre River peaked at Inverell at 8pm Monday night with the river reaching almost 4.1m over flood lines.
Some minor flooding was experienced in businesses in Byron Street and some residential properties and flooding peaked at 3.62m at Yetman at 2:15pm on Wednesday.
SES Local Coordinator for the Inverell Shire, Charlie Moir said the SES was mainly kept busy providing people with up to date information and monitoring the situation.
“We were mainly providing information to business owners and families during the night, we had to pump some cellars of businesses in Byron St, but we were mainly concerned with monitoring the river and making sure everyone knew what was happening.”
Mr Moir said Inverell was much better prepared for flood than previous years.
“Since the automatic flood gauges went up, we have a much better idea of exactly how much water is in the river and when it will peak, so we had plenty of warning, it is a big difference from the 1991 flood.
“Most of the calls we got were for sandbags and problems arising from the storms rather than flooding.”
