INVERELL Police is launching their own internal Movember campaign to support Prostate Cancer and Beyond Blue.
Simon ‘Frank’ Alexander has been one of the driving forces behind the worthwhile initiative as has Inspector Rowan O’Brien.
“We canvassed the force for expressions of interest for those ‘wannabe porn stars’ that wanted to support a good cause and grow a MO in November. The response has been great,” Snr Constable Alexander said.
“We came up with the team name ‘The Inverell Fuzz’ and people who wish to donate can do so on the Mo-vember website - www.movember.com/au.”
Participa nts in the event have registered and tendered their $10 entry fee and Mo Bro’s as they are affectionately known will be supported by Mo Sista’s in the maintenance of the mo during the month of November.
“On October 31 participants had to shave the top lip, then watch it grow.
“All the females who were unable to grow a Mo could still participate and register with us and they were known as Mo Sista’s.
“The Mo Bros, supported by their Mo Sistas, started on Sunday on Movember 1 clean shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache,” he said.
During the month each Mo Bro would effectively become a walking billboard for men’s health and the Mo will raise essential funds and awareness for men’s health (mainly the dreaded prostate cancer and depression.)
“Last year one lone Mo Bro raised $39000, which is a record since the inception of Movember.
“This gentleman died earlier this year from cancer so we are hoping we can do our bit to prolong the lives of as many men as possible,” Snr Constable Alexander said. So far the Inverell Police Force and surrounding outstations have 25 entrants and members of the community who donate should be made aware that their donation is tax deductible.
