Police union welcomes review of vehicle safety

23 Jul, 2010 10:37 AM
Brad Cooper, Police Association delegate for western region, welcomed the police force’s decision to review the safety of paddy wagons and is looking forward to progress on the issue.

“We need to ensure the safety of our members and the public, so this review and the outcome of it, will hopefully provide options to address the issues with these vehicles,” he said.

“A preliminary report has been received indicating there are issues to be addressed; we are waiting until a full report is tabled at the next vehicle standards committee meeting.”

That meeting is on Wednesday, August 4.

“We will then work with the NSW Police Force to work on the report and recommendations coming from the review.”

The NSW Police Force and Police Association have agreed to interim measures to manage the risk by utilising other available vehicles to attend incidents that require an urgent response.
