 POLICE WANT THIS MAN

POLICE WANT THIS MAN

16 Jun, 2009 10:43 AM
Police are seeking public assistance to find this man (pictured) after a nine-year-old boy was briefly abducted in Inverell last week.

This closed circuit television image was released by police who are anxious to interview the man pictured.

About 4:35pm on Tuesday last week a man approached a nine-year-old boy at the intersection of Byron and Otho Streets and took him by the hand then led him across the street.

“Once across the street the child became fearful and pulled away from the man, who again took the boy by the hand and attempted to lead him away,” police said.

“The child again pulled away and walked to a nearby supermarket.

“It is alleged the man followed the boy (to the supermarket) before leaving.”

The boy relayed the incident to his mother, who then notified police.

Police said they have been following a number of lines of investigation and have now released CCTV images of this man who they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.

He is described as 20-30 years old with an olive complexion, of thin build and 170-175 centimetres tall.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a beanie with blue and grey stripes, grey/brown knit jumper, grey/brown cargo pants and white socks with black thongs.

Anyone with information is asked to called Inverell Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The incident has prompted police to remind parents to emphasise the ‘Safe People Safe Places’ messages with their children.

Police said these include talking to their children about where they should go if something happens including a shop or supermarket, service station, police station or school.

Police said parents should also reinforce to their children that under no circumstances they should leave a safe place or get into a car with a person they do not know.
