TESTING of Inverell’s community radio station, which will start broadcasting next week, has received interference from a sports station.
STA FM has been testing transmitters by playing music for the last week ahead of its broadcast launch on July 4.
STA FM has been given the frequency of 91.9FM and as they conducted tests of their frequency strength last week, members of the station found they were experiencing interference from sports radio station 2KY, which was taking up much more than its allocated frequency on 92.7.
“We have started spectrum analysis on our frequency,” STA member Maureen Hampel said.
“And we did find there was some interference from 2KY, we aren’t too worried though, it is in the hands of the ACMA (Australian Communication Media Authority) now and will be all fixed by our official opening.”
Maureen said STA FM was still looking for members to be presenters and also to help run other aspects of the station such as office duties and promotions.
STA FM will consist of a range of programming including a breakfast program, morning show, lots of music and other special broadcasts.
“We want to have a community radio station in the actual sense of the word.
“As well as having lots of music, we want to have a real community involvement and get a lot of information out to the public.”
The station will broadcast on 91.9FM following its launch on July 4.
