Rotary supports Vanuatu school

03 Nov, 2009 08:55 AM
THE Inverell Rotary International Service Director Tim Newberry is calling on all citizens in the district to dig deep and support a worthwhile cause.

“The Fetukai Centre School in Vanuatu is in desperate need of assistance,” Mr Newberry said.

“And we are asking residents to donate all their old books, tools, teaching aides, toys and uniforms to give the children at Fetukai a chance to succeed.

“We are just one of many Rotary organisations who have adopted a school and we believe we, with the help of the community, can make a difference to their lives.”

The school has no electricity and supports 225 children from kindergarten age to 17 years old. There are no computers or the access to technology that we take for granted here.

“We are after things suitable for junior school children such as stationary and Harry Fay, a Rotarian, has offered to use Mitre 10 Inverell as a donation point,” Mr Newberry said.

“The scheme finishes in November and then we will ferry the donated items to Sydney where they will be shipped to Vanuatu.”

To support this worthy campaign bring your goods down to Mitre 10 today.
