SALVATION Army Emergency Services volunteers are actively working on the frontline in flood-affected areas of NSW and Queensland and to enable ongoing assistance the Army has announced their Australian Disaster Relief Appeal.
Inverell’s Major Peter Pearson is encouraging everyone who can afford to donate to dig deep.
“I think we are very fortunate that the rain was a little to the west of us,” Major Pearson said.
“It’s probably best for people to go into any Westpac branch or online at salvos.org.au to donate as we cannot issue receipts for the appeal from here,” he said.
Salvation Army officers and volunteers serving in and around the communities of Moree, Roma and Mitchell are prepared to serve in other areas if required and are well placed to give support.
Army communications and public relations secretary, Major Bruce Harmer, said he knows the journey to recovery continues long after the rain has ceased and the waters have subsided.
“We also know that while there will be government disaster assistance available, there are still many practical needs that people need help with, and communities will need access to counsellors and financial advisors to help people through this crisis,” Major Harmer said.
“We’ve been there to support people before in times of flood”, Major Harmer said.
“We’re asking the community to help us be there again by donating funds to our Australian Disaster Relief Appeal,” Major Harmer said.
Donations can also be made to the relief appeal by calling 13 72 58.
