Sheep killed at school

03 Jul, 2009 09:33 AM
STUDENTS and staff at Macintyre High School in Inverell were in shock this week after it was discovered sheep at the school’s agricultural plot had been killed.

Police were called to the scene on Monday morning.

According to the police report, the incident would have happened sometime on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning before 8am.

Police said unknown persons of interest have entered the Macintyre High agricultural lot in Swanbrook Road, Inverell, from the back paddock.

Once inside the ag plot, police say a lamb and a sheep were taken from the paddocks, and due to the large amount of blood in the area, it appears the animals were killed and then dragged along for some distance.

The incident has upset all involved in the development of the agricultural plot.

Many of the animals are cared for by students and taken to various shows and events. There is immense pride in the achievements that have been made there.

From the evidence at the scene, police are of the opinion that dogs were not responsible for the killings.

Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward as enquiries are still continuing. Contact Inverell Police on 67220599.
