Sisters raise $1720 for cancer research

18 Mar, 2008 01:48 PM
DEANNA and Sara Poole shared a few tears when they lost their hair for charity on Friday.

The Inverell sisters participated in the World’s Greatest Shave to support people suffering from cancer.

Losing their locks raised $1720 to help patients and families living with leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. Deanna and Sara said they had both had long hair since they were youngsters.

“It just feels so weird to have no hair anymore and for the amount of time it took to grow, getting it shaved off was so quick,” Deanna said.

“But we are pleased to be able to help people who are worse off than we are and it is such a good fundraiser.”

Deanna and Sara were surrounded by friends and family at Babs Lorraine Hair Salon during the big shave.

“We would like to thank everyone who helped us raise money and we are overwhelmed at the amount of people who supported us.”

The girls have also donated their hair to Locks of Love, who will transform it into wigs for children with leukaemia.

“It is very sad for us to lose our hair, but ours will grow back and we have helped other people as well, which makes it worthwhile,” Deanna said.
