Support for Ronald McDonald House

10 Feb, 2012 01:26 PM
ABOUT 30 people Cooinda Retirement Village gathered for a morning tea in Willmot Hall to recognise their significant contribution to Ronald McDonald House on Wednesday morning.

Cooinda organiser, Di French, said an executive officer from Ronald McDonald House (RMH) was there to host the event.

“The morning tea is to thank all the residents who raise funds for them throughout the year as well as do a lot of knitting for them that goes to the children,” Di said.

“They knit animals, a blanket and every child who stays at RMH for a night is given this little parcel to take home with them and a number of our residents supply the goods that go.

“It’s not money it’s all goods,” Di said.

Kylie Eakin, the executive officer from RMH in Tamworth, was hosting the morning tea and described the residents as absolute angels.

“They have been for the past three years creating their own artistic little designs,” Kylie said.

“They have been creating teddy bears, they have been creating jumpers, rugs, they have been gathering and donating all the different house supplies, whether it’s cleaning product, whether it’s catering products they go around and do the collections themselves and they donate all this to the house.

“Every three to four months they religiously bring over a big load for the house,” Kylie said.

The residents of Cooinda were described by Kylie as being huge supporters of RMH.

“What they provide to us we would have to fundraise to get buy these things for the house,” Kylie said. “They’re doing that for the house so that the expenditure is not there, they’re reducing the costs for us.

“I reckon in the last load they brought over to me they would have been approaching the $1500 mark, that’s just the last load they brought over,” Kylie said.

The residents put their heart and soul into donating to RMH Kylie said, and a monetary value could not be placed upon their donations.

“When we wrap some of these things up and give them to a little one who is being discharged from hospital, or they’re going down into the hospital and they want something to take with them, you can’t put a price on the big smiles, the happiness, the parents who get a bit emotional when they see the kindness,” Kylie said.

“You can’t put a price on kindness,” she said.
