Cooinda residents have been struck another blow by vandals after last Saturday saw two residents outdoor furniture stolen.
On Tuesday night, graffiti was sprayed on some mailboxes at the village, and some thieves were foiled by a wily resident who sprung a group of youths attempting to steal her outdoor chairs.
“The people who tried to steal chairs on Tuesday night picked the wrong resident, who came out of their unit and yelled at them for being out so late at night,” Self Care Unit Coordinator Robyn Dixon said.
“Luckily the resident was able to get a good description of the people who tried to steal her things, so the police might be able to find them.”
In better news for the retirement village, after Ross and Ann Prevett and Terry Turner had their outdoor furniture stolen on Saturday night, business owners have rallied to donate furniture to the residents. Inverell Furniture Court were first on the phone to the village yesterday, and Robyn said she has also had offers from Tim and Chris Russell of Vineyard Joinery and BK Oliver Home Timber and Hardware to replace the stolen chairs.
“It is good to see that when something like this happens that the community support comes along,” Robyn said. “We are so thankful for the support from these businesses.”
