177 reasons to smile

DAVID Mudaliar underlined his already blossoming reputation with a stellar 177 not out for the Campbell and Freebairn Rebels against Bundarra last weekend in the seasons best individual performance to date. The 177 not out is Mudaliars highest score at this level.

Mudaliar flayed the Bundarra attack to all parts of the ground in one of the most complete batting performance seen in local cricket for years.

The silky right-hander helped his side reach an imposing three for 319 before putting the cleaners through Bundarra for 143. The Orchard brothers combined brilliantly taking four wickets between them and starved the Bundarra side of runs to win in emphatic fashion.

In the other first grade game, Delungra bounced back to form with a comprehensive victory over the Royal Rats.

Lead brilliantly by Captain Jack Cole, who made 66 in good time, all Delungra’s batsmen got off to good starts and reached eight for 300. Aside from useful contributions from Ethan Kimmince (45) and Kurt McCarthy (45), sundries were the next top score with 39 in a worrying sign for the Rats.

With 301 set to win, the Royal Rats got off to a slowish start losing two quick wickets with only 52 on the board. This was compounded with the loss of another two wickets with the score only on 109 and the job still in front of the Royal batsmen. When Lachlan Binnie fell for six, the writing was well and truly on the wall at five for 113.

A strong sixth wicket stand of 96 was mired by the loss of two successive wickets with the score on 209 and the innings folded thereafter for 236.

Representative cricket will again be the focus on Sunday with Inverell hosting Tamworth Blue at Varley Oval in the second round of the War Veterans Cup. The match will begin at 10am.
