Plans underway for new Auskick program

05 Feb, 2010 10:09 AM
Inverell Auskick Centre will be kicking off their 2010 season with their start-up meeting tomorrow evening at 6.30pm at McDonalds Family Restaurant.

Auskick is a national junior AFL program to introduce children to Aussie Rules football.

Auskick is aimed at improving the child’s fitness, ball skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in a fun and family atmosphere.

Any boy or girl aged five to 12 years can participate in the Auskick Program regardless of their ability.

Auskick sessions run throughout the AFL season and it is sponsored by the NAB. Each session is run by fully accredited coaching staff and lasts for about an hour.

When the Inverell Saints have a home game, the Auskick children play at half time in front of the crowd.

Also each year the Auskick participants are invited to travel to Sydney to play at the SCG at a Sydney Swan’s home game.

This year Inverell will be supplying an under 12s team and two under 10s teams for the Sydney trip.

Every club in the TAFL competition plan to have an Auskick Centre this year.

This will mean that we will be able to organise more inter-town games for the kids. Inverell Auskick would like to thank McDonalds Inverell, Inverell Retravision, Cavanagh’s Transport, Salon Esspresso and the NAB bank for all their support throughout the 2009 season and look forward to the ongoing support of these local businesses.

Any current Auskick families and any new families interested in Auskick this season are urged to attend Saturday’s meeting.

The new committee will be formed at this meeting and the program for this year’s Auskick will be discussed.
