THE dates for the 2010 Joeys Champions Challenge Cup have been set.
In order to give the teams and players a good hit out before the season kicks off organizers have changed the 2010 tournament date from the October school holidays to the April Easter school holidays. This will allow Queensland and NSW teams to play during their holidays and it is also a better time frame for teams to come from Germany to participate in the cup.
It will not clash with the Gold Coast Champions Cup that is held from September 25 to October 2, 2010. A lot of teams that go to the Gold Coast Champions Cup are also supporting the Inverell tournament.
“The host of the Gold Coast Champions Cup Mudgeeraba, is endeavouring to send teams down to Inverell in support of the Joeys Football Club and to show their appreciation for the dedication the Joeys have given the Gold Coast Champions Cup over the last five years,” said chief organizer Heinrich Haussler(pictured).
“The Grafton to Inverell is also run in September/ October and being an international event, the race must get preference above all and any other event should stay clear of the great race. These are all valid reasons to move the date for the Challenge Cup into April,” he said.
“It is also paramount for the success of an event like the Challenge Cup that the whole of Inverell rally behind it since it is becoming one of the biggest attractions for the town.”
The tournament starts on Thursday April 8 and will finish for the older age groups on Sunday April 11, 2010. There will be a two-day training clinic starting Monday April 12 and finishing on Tuesday April 13, 2010.
The tournament for the younger age groups will start Wednesday April 14 and will finish Saturday April 17, 2010.
“The Joeys Football Academy and the patron of our Club Mr. Rale Rasic former Socceroo and FIFA World Cup coach will run a training camp. Mr. Rale Rasic will be coaching at the camp meaning the players will get quality advice and coaching by Australia’s most decorated and successful coach in Australian football history,” said Haussler.
The Cup venue is the Inverell Sports Complex with four full size fields on the top left side of the complex and two larger size fields (110 metres by 80 metres) on the lower level of the complex - the old hockey fields. The fields are all in excellent condition and would provide without any doubt the best playing surface in the district.
“Some games will be played under lights on the two larger fields,” said Haussler.
“It is important for the success and the growth of the Cup that Varley Oval is made available for the Sunday finals for the older age groups,” he said.
“Varley Oval is situated right in the centre of Inverell and it is Inverell’s premier sports ground. It is the only ground in town with enclosure and a real buzz where we can create an atmosphere similar to a final played in Europe with half time entertainment such as pipe and brass bands.”
Haussler said it was necessary to jazz the tournament up and make it a priority for sport in this town and attract visitors and tourists.
“The Joeys teams are used to and privileged to play at the best grounds when in Germany where the top professional players play, when we are at the Gold Coast at Carrara Stadium or at Skilled Park Stadium for the finals. When our guest teams come to Inverell we should be able to and be proud to offer the same as we have been offered and give them the best we have on hand.
“Teams are expected to come from Melbourne, Sydney, GoldCoast, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Warrwick, Stanthorpe, Tenterfield, Lismore, Armidale, Tamworth, Glen Innes, and Moree,” said Haussler.
“It is important for parents spending their holidays at a sports event where their kids participate that they have other events to entertain themselves and make it worth their time in Inverell .
“ And it is also the chance for Inverell and district, for small and big business to show off what we have to offer and that we are the best host around.”
There will be bus tours available during the tournament for parents and players to see the great variety of tourist attractions Inverell and district have to offer. Wine tasting at one of the many vineyards, coffee and product tasting at one of the Olive farms, fossicking for sapphires, the Car Museum, the Pioneer Village and sightseeing at beautiful Copeton Dam with a BBQ.
Players or teams invited to use our local pool to relax and recuperate after their games. The Bus travel for the Tours is free of charge. Tours will be advertised well in advance and bookings need to be made prior to the commencement of the tours.
A dinner night at the local RSM Club for player’s, parents and supporters with Guest speaker Rale Rasic will be held Friday April 9, 2010 and has been booked with the club. The team to tour Germany in 2010 will be introduced at the dinner.
“Also, the Joeys Champions Challenge Cup website keeps you updated about the Cup and all-important information. There are listings of motels, pubs, caravan parks and any other accommodation available. It also recommends places where to eat and relax during the tournament.”
