THE Inverell Jockey Club is hoping a meeting with Racing NSW will confirm the Boxing Day and New Year races.
After meeting on Monday night, the club is hoping its Inverell Cup Carnival meetings will get the full go ahead, now the races have been scheduled.
Secretary-treasurer Leonie Moffitt said she would meet with Racing NSW before the end of next week to negotiate the length and class of the races and the number of horses available to race then.
“At the moment it looks like there will be enough horses for Boxing Day but not the New Year races,” Leonie said.
“But it will take some time to sort out.
“It also depends between now and then if there are any outbreaks and what buffer zones will be still in place.
“The zones are like a jigsaw puzzle and every now and then the pieces are spilled so they have to put them back together.”
Leonie said the club was going to push as hard as it could for the races to go ahead as normal as possible.
“Everyone from the committee has been involved and we are positive,” she said.
“We are hoping to hold both meetings and now it is just the waiting game to see what happens with Racing NSW.
“There are so many aspects that go with it and so many areas are affected by Equine Influenza.”
