President Sue Urquhart presented Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group secretary Jan O’Neill with the cheque on Tuesday and said the golf club had wanted to make a donation to support a local charity.

“We had a day at the end of last year where the ladies were playing golf and wanted to donate to a worthy cause and we decided that breast cancer research was a good one,” she said.

“Everyone put their hands in their pockets and donated and we’re presenting what we raised on the day.”

Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group secretary Jan O’Neill was delighted to receive the donation and said it would benefit the community.

“I think it’s absolutely wonderful,” she said.

“This money will stay in this town and with the locals.

“In a few months we’re going to have a day especially for anyone who has any type of cancer and this money will be able to go towards giving them a wonderful day.”
