Oh so close for Josh Strang

Oh so close for Josh Strang

30 Oct, 2009 09:48 AM
JOSH Strang gave it his best shot but came up just short.

With it all on the line, Strang had to hope that front-runner Paul Whibley failed to finish to usurp the title but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

Strang finished third in the race and secured second overall in the 13 round series – a magnificent achievement.

Next year he will compete in the USA with #2 plate firmly chiseled to his bike.

The race was a little disappointing for Josh, as he pushed hard in the first lap and while trying to pass he found his bike didn’t fit between two trees.

The resulting crash significantly damaged his bike and left Josh seeing stars for most of the rest of the race.

By the fourth lap Josh had got his Suzuki back in front and looked to be heading for win number six for the series.

At that precarious stage of proceedings, Whibley was moving backward faster than a hermit crab while Strang, pushing for the crown, ran into trouble with the line beckoning.

A bad bog hole claimed him in each of the last two laps and he dropped back to the final podium position of third.

It was evident for all to see that he had left nothing in the tank and that he will be the man to fear in 2010.

For a series with five wins and numerous top finishes only underlines his credentials at this level.

This result is good enough to give Josh a very satisfying silver position overall for the 2009 series.

Kawasaki rider, Paul Whibley, wrapped up the series with a fifth place in the final round, while Josh’s team mate, Charlie Mullins, finished third overall.

Next year’s series will get underway at the end of February in Florida and Josh will wear the number two plate.

If this year is anything to go by it won’t take long until he trades it for number one.

Inverell’s Josh Strang went within a whisker of claiming overall honours in the GNCC Series on the weekend. Strang finished second overall for the championships and is as hungry as ever to claim the crown in 2010. After five wins in 2009, it will take a big effort to stop him.
