20 Oct 09 | THE Inverell East’s Sapphire City Pairs have been taken out by two relatively new Inverell East bowlers. Graham Carney, who has started living up to his early potential, skipped a much improved new bowler in Wal Purvis to defeat the experienced Guyra pairing of Dave Wilcox and John “Jacko” Jackson in the final 8-2 on Sunday afternoon. Graham and Wal defeated fellow club mates Joe Bell and Phil Ross in the semi final 4-3 to advance to the final.
20 Oct 09 | IN one of the better initiatives seen in recent times, the Inverell Highlanders Rugby Club have launched a new campaign called ‘Buy A Block.’ The thinking behind it is that businesses or members of the public can pay to have their name etched into a concrete block used to build the new facilities and complex at Rugby Park.

Hugh wins Tamworth Ten, again
18 Aug 09 | HUGH Williams is making a habit of winning. This time he successfully defended his title at the 36th edition of the Tamworth Ten. Williams, who was pushed all the way by fellow state runner, Lisarow’s Cale Bowd, completed the course in 33 minutes and 18 seconds barely 20 seconds in front of Bowd. Still, it was enough for the 17-year-old to become a dual winner of the event.
14 Aug 09 | TEN weeks ago the title defence of the Inverell Highlanders appeared in disarray. The team lacked cohesion and the results were not coming. Some believed it was a hangover from winning the CNRU title in 2008 and maybe that much was true but what many don’t know aside from the playing roster and those close to the club is that this side is built on tougher stuff. Words like character and resilience.
14 Aug 09 | ONE thing will not be lost on the Tigers over the next few weeks and that is the pain of losing last year’s grand final to Glen Innes. As the finals draw near, the Tigers will need all their powers of control to extinguish those doubts and negatives and use them as a catalyst to kick on this year. The Inverell Hawkettes sit in second place on 25 competition points and only Guyra are in front of them on 28 points despite the fact Guyra have let in more tries and scored three fewer.
