Boys Club score well against Armidale

27/05/2008 11:13:00 AM
The Boys’ Club Inverell held its first Regional MAG competition for the year at the Boys Club on Sunday, with up to 17 boys attending the competition between Armidale and Inverell, five of these representing the Boys’ Club.

Quinton Weiss and Finn Greig made their debut into the competitive side of gymnastics with Quinton finishing first on floor, pommel, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar finishing first over all claiming his first ever gold medal in the International Level 1 division.

Quinton received an outstanding score on pommel with a 9.45 and exceptionally great scores on rings and vault.

In the Open level 1 division competition was at its best between the Armidale boys and Inverell’s promising gymnast Finn Greig. Fin received a second placing on floor, third on parallel bars and fourth placings on rings, vault pommel and high bar.

It was also a titanic battle between Inverell’s top two Level 2 gymnasts in the Open Level 2 division as they went head to head with the very strong team of boys from Armidale, with a nail bitting between Inverell’s Robbie Porritt and the top two gymnasts from Armidale.

Robbie competing for his first time in the open level two division performed out of this world to take a first placing on floor, second on pommel and rings, finishing third overall claiming another bronze medal to add to his collection of achievements.

Inverell’s Quenton Foster Sesuru also put in a very strong performance in the open level two division, with his experience shining through on floor and vault with excellent scores, finishing within the top six on his level.

Competition was at its peak between Inverell’s leading gymnast Hunter Hodges and the Armidale boy, as the boys went neck-to-neck battling it out for the top honour.

Hunter taking the competition to the next level with first placings on rings, parallel bars and high bar, and second placings on floor, pommel and vault, finishing first over all featuring in the winners circle.

This is an excellent result for Hunter considering it’s his first competition on Level 3.

Accompanying the boys throughout the competition were coaches – Josh Butler, Jane Kainz and Stuart Hodges along with experienced judge Brent Reading.

Brent would like to make a very special thanks to the following people who helped out with the working bee on the Saturday and assisting him with the competition on Sunday – Rebecca Weiss, Allan, Mike, Clara Porritt, Shelly and Stuart Hodges, Josh Butler, Jane Kainz, Zoe, and all the boys and other people who helped out, without your support, the competition would not have been as successful as it was.
