Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay is urging eligible groups to consider applying for up to $30,000 in funding for a range of projects to improve facilities at a local level.

Applications are now open and will be accepted until November 14, 2008 with successful applicants expected to be announced in the second quarter of 2009.

“This program always generates a lot of interest and while the upper limit of $30,000 is quite generous, applications vary with many smaller projects receiving funding,” Mr Torbay said.

“Projects in the Northern Tablelands attracted $55,000 in funding in the 2007-2008 round.

“They included $19,000 to Inverell Rugby Club for an additional playing field and $9,500 to the Glencoe Sports Association for a catering facility.

“This funding is allocated to assist local councils and not for profit incorporated groups to develop facilities aimed at increasing participation in sport, recreation and physical activity.

“I encourage eligible groups to seize this opportunity to improve their facilities.”
