Top night at Tigerland

29 Sep, 2009 08:53 AM
THE Tingha Tigers capped a remarkable year by holding their 2009 presentation night in Tingha on Saturday night. It was a celebration of the most successful season the club has enjoyed in the modern era.

Awards were given out to Ladies League Tag, Under 18s, Presidents Cup and First Grade and it was a chance for the masses to celebrate an outstanding year, one last time.

Award winners on the night included Ellie Reynolds - who scooped the pool in the Ladies League Tag by claiming Group Best and Fairest, Highest Tryscorer, Players Player and Runner-Up to Cassie Schuman in the Team Best and Fairest Award. Miranda Morgan was Most Improved.

In the 18s Ryan Alexander also had a night out by claiming the Group Best and Fairest, Players Player and Runner-Up in the Team Best and Fairest vote count to Guy Berger. Karl Falconer claimed the Highest Pointscorer and Tryscorer awards and Ben Marsh received the Coach’s Award.

The Presidents Cup side was also an evening to remember but this time for Scott Williams, who claimed the Team and Group Best and Fairest Awards as well as Players Player. Clint Connors claimed Highest Pointscorer while Nick Pomfrett was Most Improved. The Players Player Award was shared between four players including Williams, Tim Campbell, Nick Pomfrett and Chris Pout.

The Coach’s Award went to Albert Connors and Jessiah Munro.

In First Grade the spoils were more evenly shared with Nathan Guan picking up three - Runner Up Team Best and fairest, Group Best and Fairest and Players Player. Guan shared the Players Player Award with Justin McIllwain.

David Kent scooped up Highest Pointscorer and Leading Tryscorer while Michael Walls won the Alma and Dinkey Award for the Toughest Player after playing 29 games across two grades this season.

Ray Criagie secured the Patrons gong and Craig Curtin and Todd Prince shared the Presidents Award.

The big award on the night however was reserved for Paul Leitinger who collected the Team Best and Fairest Award. Many agreed there was no more fitting recepient.

The Tigers would like to thank all sponsors, supporters and players for their marvellous contributions this season and hope to see everyone back again in 2010.

Big year for Tingha taking out the Group Best and Fairest in all four Grades. Maybe some supporting research would have been well advised. I was at the group presentation and thats not how I remember it happening.
