The Inverell Highlanders handed down a comprehensive beating to the Scone Brumbies on Saturday coming in at 76-12 at full time.
The Highlanders put on an impressive display of dominance to keep the visitors scoreless for most of the game as the team put on a cohesive performance.
Highlanders club president Damon Scoble said the win was a team effort and the club couldn’t be happier with the result.
“Everyone played very well and all three grades had a wins which was good to see.
“Our forwards really dominated the opposition which gave the back plenty of room to move.”
Experienced players Dave Kearsey and Joe de Dassel shone in front of the home crowd, and Simon Newton, Liam Bonner and Nigel Henley also had outstanding games.
The Highlanders Reserves also had an outstanding game coming in the winners 48-7 against a struggling Scone side, and the Under-19s were boosted by the return of some players at university away from Inverell to take the Brumbies down 39-19.
“The Under 19s played really well and it was good to see the young fellas get up for a win.”
The Highlanders will head to Tamworth next weekend to play a strong Tamworth Magpies.
Last time the two clubs met was in round one of competition where the Magpies handed down a beating, but the Highlanders are a changed team from then and are ready for the challenge Scoble said.
“We are a changed side since the first round and we certainly won’t be taking the Magpies lightly in any way.
“Our forwards will have to dominate and match the Magpies to make ground in the match, if we can beat them, we will get back into the top four.”
