“The Uniting Church of Inverell have decided to sell four, big, long full cedar pews and three missal rails,” Brian said.
“The pews are so big and heavy and with an aging population they’ve decided to sell the pews and substitute them with casual armchairs, which are a lot more comfortable for the older people in the church.
“One of the pews is 17 foot and two of them are 14 foot and one is 12 foot six. The missal rails don’t belong to any of the pews that they’re retaining its an opportunity for people to get these very thick pieces of Australian Red Cedar to do with whatever they like; put them into a house or make them into tables or whatever.”
Brian described the timber a magnificent, seasoned cedar.
“It’s been in the church ever since it was built, so it’s real old style cedar,” he said.
Brian said although he had sat in the pews and they were quite comfortable he had no idea about their statistical record; he could not say how many prayers had been answered for their previous users.
“I have no idea, I’m not a Uniting Church or Methodist. I can’t quote on the statistics,” Brian laughed.
“We’ve got a lot of cedar in the sale so it’s a chance for people to get a lot of really quality furniture.”
