But Corby's freedom is probably still about two months away, as her application must yet be approved by a number of Indonesian government departments and the Justice Minister Amir Syamsuddin in Jakarta.

An official from the Bali Corrections Board has meanwhile told Fairfax Media of Corby’s open anxiety to be let out of the prison where she has spent the past nine years.

Ketut Sukiati, a supervisor from the corrections board Bapas, spoke of meeting Corby inside Kerobokan in August.

“She approached me and gave me a hug on the shoulder,” Ms Ketut said.

“She said, ‘Who are you? Can you help me quickly? I’m stressed out here, I want to get out quickly. It’s crowded, there are too many people here!”

Bali prison governor Ngurah Wiratna has confirmed that, on Friday he received a letter from the international police organisation Interpol confirming that the convicted cannabis smuggler was not wanted for any other crimes.

The letter completes the portfolio of documents that make up Corby’s parole application. It has taken 16 months since she became eligible to compile it.

However, the wheels of Indonesian bureaucracy will still grind slowly.

First, some time this week, the prison will send Corby’s completed application to the Balinese provincial corrections department. Their approval will be sent to Jakarta for national level approval.

The department in Jakarta will then require a letter from the Immigration Department to say Corby is allowed to stay in Indonesia without the usual visa and stay permits. She is permitted to do this under immigration laws which treat parolees as prisoners.

Corby will be required to serve out her sentence while living with her sister, Mercedes, and brother in law Wayan Widiartha at their family compound in Bali’s Kuta area.

If those papers are approved, the director general of correctional facilities will sign her application, and, because hers is a drug case (and politically sensitive) it must also be signed off by the Justice Minister.

Ministerial spokesman Goncang Raharjo said that, if other approvals were in place, there was “no reason for the minister to reject it”. However, his signature could take two weeks to obtain.

If Corby’s application receives approval from the minister, the paperwork then filters back down to Bali — to the prison, the prosecutors and the Bali Corrections Board, who will supervise her life on parole.

In documents that emerged recently, Corby promises that on parole she will not use or distribute drugs, that she will report to the corrections board at least monthly, and that she will “dress neatly and appropriately for the officials”.

She will also be subject to snap inspections of her sister Mercedes’ home by the corrections board.

“If I cannot fulfill those requirements, I'm ready to be sent back to prison to undergo the rest of the sentence,” Corby confirms in the documents.

She has agreed to be employed designing bikinis for Mr Wayan’s surf shop.

Her parole includes guidance and counselling to make sure she is adapting to life outside prison.

If she breaches her conditions, she will go back to jail and miss out on one year of sentence remission. Time she has spent outside prison will not count as prison time.

If she abides by all her conditions, she will be free to return to Australia, on March 24, 2018. She was arrested on October 8, 2004
