THE off-duty Inverell police officer struck while cycling on the morning of Monday, March 3 has been downgraded from critical to serious condition. He is presently in an induced coma.

"It's going to be a very, very long haul," said Inverell station commander Inspector Rowan O'Brien.
The 58-year-old man was cycling east when he was struck from behind when the incident involving a motorist occurred at approximately 7.30am. He was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said the man was admitted to surgery on Monday night with serious brain injuries.
The motorist was not hurt in the incident and currently helping police with their inquiries about the incident.
An investigation into the incident is underway and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
