The cheque was presented to Inner Wheel president Andrea Hud-son and member Frances Germany-Medway by Inverell Shire’s Executive Public Relations Officer Barb Eshman who represented council.
The Inner Wheel co-ordinated the catering for tea, providing a spread of slices, cakes and food that proved highly popular with the 90 women gathered for the event at Inverell Station.
There are 23 members of the Inner Wheel in Inverell, and actually increasing its memb-ership. Once called the Rotary Ladies, it is open to all women, and now can be joined through invitation.
Andrea said all money the Inner Wheel receives is designated for specific projects.
The Inverell Women’s Refuge has been a specific local focus for the group this term.
“Because this year the theme that was set by the international president was ‘We for Women’, so we were encouraged to look at that theme and set our projects,” Andrea said.
“We support them annually, but this year they had a bit more,” Frances explained.
Frances said the Inner Wheel provided personal care supplies for women at the refuge and linen for when they planned to take the next step beyond their stay.
As the Inner Wheel were behind the catering, they gained from the line-up of presenters on the day.
“The guest speakers were great; talked about this we didn’t know about and should know about. It was a privilege to be there, really, people sharing their lives and their thoughts with you. It was pretty special.” Frances said.
“It was a great morn-ing of fellowship and learning.”
In addition to the Inner Wheel contrib-ution, Barb Eshman said the morning tea raised $160 for Operation Operating Room.
