“We wouldn’t have completed, aw, I be pushing it if I said eight sets in the first half,” Lavender said.
“We just had no ball, and once you give them the ball it’s just game over, really.”
Lavender said it came back to the lack of trial games.
“First up we had a trial game set up for Gunnedah. They pulled out. Stanthorpe. They pulled out. West Tamworth. They pulled out, and Quirindi and Narrabri, they were the other ones,” Lavender said.
“We had it all set, but they pulled out a few days before they were due to come over here.”
Lavender agreed the Hawks could make a slow start to the season because of their lack of pre-season play, but did not see last week’s defeat as being all bad for the team.
“I think we’ll take some positives out of that game, but it will probably take some time to warm up,” he said.
The weekend after Easter the Hawks will travel to Armidale. Their next home game will be in three weeks against Tingha.
“I’m pretty sure our coach may have something up his sleeve,” Lavender said.
