With direction from Macintyre High School art instructor Narelle Kliendanze, 19 students created images in paint, prints, drawings, artist books and wrote short stories about their everyday life.
Following an exhibition of the students’ work at the gallery in late May, the collection will travel to Kepier Academy in Tyne and Wear, England. The Keiper students will reciprocate with a package of work of their own to show in Inverell.
Enthusiasm was high in the studio on day two as the time wound down and work piled up from their efforts.
Emma Harmon was working on her story and had some specific things she wanted to share with the British students.
“How we get around and our school life,” she said.
Kaitlin Hutchings shared some of her favourite places and recollection of adventures she had with her family abroad. Italy was the most memorable place she visited.
“That was where some of my family came from. We saw of our family. It was really cool,” she said.
Jada Waddell enjoyed the range of techniques they learned.
“I like it because we get to do a lot of art stuff, and we get to tell other people about what we’re doing,” she said.
Hamish Williamson had a range of images in his artist book to share with viewers. Spreading out the flip book he explained the drawings and words within.
“That’s all the songs that I like, and then fishing, and I like comedy, and I like fish, and I like motorbikes, and I like karate, I like boats and I like silly stuff,” he said laughing.
Jackson Cross enjoyed the chance to make art and was happy his work would be sent overseas. He shared details of his life and family in his art.
“Just about that my family mostly rides motorbikes and drag cars, and that I always like to draw in my spare time,” he said.
The Day in My Life exhibition will open on May 30 at the Inverell Art gallery before it is packaged up and sent to England. The exhibition of the Kepier Academy student work opens at the Inverell Art Gallery on Thursday, July 24 at 4.30pm with a free light afternoon tea.
The project was made possible with a Country Arts Support Grant with Regional Arts NSW and Arts NSW.
