The group will host the open days from 10am to 3pm on Monday, August 4, Wednesday, August 13 and Friday, August 22. Staff will be on hand to assist people for a reduced rate of only $20 per day to dig into the past and find genealogical treasures.
Group president Ann Plumb said there are multiple resources available to find links to the past. The collection has newspapers on microfilm, local family and building history, countless books, Ancestry online, maps, cemetery collections and many other resources.
“I don’t think people do realise just what we do have there. We have a considerable amount of information, mostly on the local information; histories on properties, buildings, and the people,” Ann said.
The staff itself is a kind of encyclopaedia of local knowledge.
“They know just where someone might have lived, who lived there and maybe even their neighbours,” Ann said.
The Inverell and District Family History Group can be found at 129-135 Otho Street. For further information, phone Ann on 0431 052 825 or Muriel Resta on 0428 221 893.
