There have been 340 registrations and there are more than 30 junior teams in the 2014 competition, with many players travelling from as far away as Bingara, Barraba, Bundarra and Warialda to play.
IJSA caters for children from five-years-old right through to 18, and there is a big focus on enjoyment and participation in an increasingly popular team-building sport.
IJSA committee president Carl White and secretary Tammy Cabitza were overwhelmed with the popularity of junior soccer this year.
“The support, and patience, from parents is a real credit to the community, and it is the kids who really benefit from that,” said White. He said the success of junior soccer in Inverell only existed through the commitment and dedication of the volunteers.
“The volunteers are made up of parents, committee members and older players who assist with everything from training, the canteen, refereeing, setting up the fields and arranging teams,” White said.
“Even on Wednesday after-noons for training there is a regular turn-out of over 100 children, which to me is a really good indication that kids are enjoying their soccer.”
IJSA committee would like to formally acknowledge and thank Inverell Shire Council as it provides junior soccer with a huge amount of assistance and support, by providing a great venue, a canteen and storage facilities.
The committee also welcomes new ideas and involvement from volunteers, parents and kids with a view to paving the way for a bigger and better season in 2015.
