A witness on the scene reported a male driver with a second adult and two children, collided with lone female driver at approximately 11am this morning.
Emergency Services attended the scene.
The witness estimated the Westpac Rescue Helicopter arrived at about 12pm. Armidale Crime Manager, Inspector Roger Best, said one of the adults in the car with multiple passengers sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Tamworth Hospital. The remaining adult and two children were transported to Armidale Hospital.
Inspector Best said the second driver did not require hospital attention and escaped without serious injuries.
As of 2.15pm Friday, the road section remains closed to traffic.
