The Country squads are made up of players from NNSWF’s Northern Member Zones of Mid North Coast, North Coast, Far North Coast and Northern Inland Football.
Under 13 Coach Andy Lennon said he was very impressed with the quality of players that trialled.
“It was great to see such a high quality of players that trialled throughout the process. Now that we have a confirmed squad, I am looking forward to the training sessions set and preparing for the tournament.”
“It is hard that we don’t have access to the players full time, but I believe that the amount of preparation that we have scheduled will enable all of the players in the squad to have a successful week at the championships.”
“The National Youth Championships is a great opportunity for the players’ development, being able to play against the elite players of their age group, and for NNSWF to see where their players compare to the rest of the Country,” concluded Lennon.
Coach for the Northern NSW Football Under 14s team Victor Stokes said getting the squad to come together as a team is a key aspect leading into the Championships.
“Only 9 players from the 2013 Under 13s squad who attended the National Youth Championships have been selected in the 2014 Under 14s squad, and with only 5 sessions available for preparation, one of the main objectives will be to get the players to learn to trust one another and the coaching staff which will enable them to bond as a group.”
“The National Youth Championships for the Country squads across the various States is always a challenge with the amount of times available for squad training and choosing a location which is central to all players/parents/coaches and the regularity of the sessions from a practical sense is always difficult.”
“However, Larry and I will certainly pull all of our resources and limited knowledge together and try to create an experience for all of the players which they will remember for many years to come,” concluded Stokes.
2014 marks the fourth year Northern NSW has fielded both a Country and Metropolitan squad in both the Under 13 and Under 14 age groups at the FFA National Youth Championships for Boys.
