THERE was a loud boom then a big scatter of feathers in the sky above Tamworth on the weekend, when the Inverell Saints (29.26 200) shot down the Narrabri Eagles (8.5 53).

It was a direct hit Saints coach Nick Baird was very pleased to see after his team’s trouncing at the hands of the Tamworth Kangaroos the week before.
“It was a good way to bounce back. I think it was a good wake-up call for us showing that you can’t go into a game not really fully committed,” Baird said.
“This weekend the boys were very determined to rectify that, and it all starts again going into the semi-finals.”
The Saints now come up against competition leaders, the Nomads, this coming weekend and Baird admitted that this game will be the test for his side.
“We went there mid-season with a side that was a long way from our best side and pushed them to within five points, and with a win over them a fortnight ago we’ve got every confidence that we can go over and put in a good effort,” Baird said.
He agreed it would not pay to be overconfident and said if the side stuck to its game plan and produced its best footy, then he thought they were in there with a chance.
“We should have our best 22 on the paddock,” Baird said.
Baird predicted a home grand final against the Nomads, but he said the Tamworth Kangaroos were playing top football and any three sides have a claim to the premiership.
