“I know a lot of the boat users would be very happy with that,” Mayor Paul Harmon said.
“That road has been gravel for a very long time.
“We did that under a closed road situation that allowed us to be able to get that done on time and on budget.
“I think as the summer approaches the community will certainly appreciate the work that’s been done out there.” Cr Harmon denied the sealing of the road was a first step in making something bigger of the current primitive camping area.
“Council has said for quite some time that while there is a state park on the other side of the dam, why would you need to duplicate services on this side of the park?” he said. Cr Harmon said he was not against tourism and the sealed road would boost visitors to the northern foreshores.
“I think you will find that the majority of people who use the northern foreshores are locals,” he said.
“I have friends who slip out after work in the summer time to do some skiing or some fishing and this will make it a lot easier for them to get out and back than it was before.
“It’s part of the license agreement we have that it is only a primitive camping ground, and until that is changed that’s the way it will remain.”
