Event organiser Keri McInerney said she found her own roots at the debut of Macintyre in 1974.
“They opened up Macintyre as a brand-new concept school and we considered ourselves very fortunate,” Keri said.
She said the anniversary and reunion are planned to evoke nostalgia for a simpler time.
“We wanted to take it back to what we were used to when we were living there, which is really down to earth.
“We wanted to come back to what Inverell was really about, which was that community.”
The event launches with a bang at the Empire Hotel on Friday night with a cocktail meet ‘n’ greet party. On Saturday, Keri said the Macintyre P&C is catering a lunch for guests and conducting school tour on Saturday.
The adventurous can join fossicking tours planned for the afternoon.
Dancing and dining is the focus of Saturday’s night main event at the Inverell RSM, and come Sunday morning, those still in town can gather for a last breakfast at the Empire.
Keri said there are plenty of old photos and memorabilia on site and they are planning an ongoing remembrance of students and teachers who have passed away.”
“Because we know we’ve lost a few and that’s been a really very emotional thing. We are not forgetting anybody,” Keri said.
Keri stressed the event is open to all current and past students and teachers and their families.
“It’s not only about a reunion, it’s actually the anniversary celebration which we feel is pretty important after 40 years. It’s not just about the school participants; it’s about the community.”
Various ticketing options are available to attend some or all of the planned events. Booking time is running out for catering purposes.
