Mayor Paul Harmon presented Mr Moir with a certificate of thanks and a pen with the council’s shield on it as tokens of appreciation for all the work he has put in over the years.
Cr Harmon said he thought it was appropriate that Cr Barry Johnston should speak on behalf of the council.
Cr Johnston thanked Mr Moir for his service and recalled the difficult times the SES had gone through in previous years.
Mr Moir resigned as unit controller to concentrate more on his duties of chair of the SES Volunteers Association, following recent scrutiny of the organisation by the ICAC.
Mr Moir thanked council for their consideration.
“Thank you very much and it has been a pleasure,” he told council.
He told the Inverell Times he very much appreciated the council’s gesture.
“Council has been very supportive of the volunteers and I have nothing but praise for them for that reason,” Mr Moir said.
He said SES staff is very positive about re-building.
“I was talking to the minister last month and they’re advertising for a new commissioner, and once that new commissioner is in place we can start to restructure the whole show,” he said.
