There was an excellent turn out of members, particularly the junior and sub juniors group, which the club is well known for.
Most of the committee was returned under the guidance of re-elected president, Greg Seagrott.
Over the past 12 months the club has conducted family fishing weekends with an emphasis on family, and supplementing the costs involved.
Through membership fees and the many raffles conducted at the fisho’s Thursday nights at the Royal Hotel, the club has made donations to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service totalling $780.
The club has purchased its own four-wheel covered trailer, which has been set up with marquee and all cooking facilities. It provides a great camp kitchen for members and guests at an outing.
The club has also purchased a small fully-equipped aluminium boat and electric outboard for members’ use at the family outings.
At the presentation, many trophies were handed out to the winners of largest of species for the men, women and both junior and sub junior boys and girls.
The club’s overall winner on points was Graham ‘Crispy’ Crisp. Some members wanted a re-count on the points because with four daughters in the boat and having to maintain worms and craybobs on their lines, no one knew how he had time to put a bait in the water for himself.
The main species winners went to:
Men: best cod - Don Brown, 92 cms; Yellow belly - Josh Usher, 62cm; Redfin - Bill Macey, 39cms; Silver perch - Don Brown, 40cms; Catfish – Chris Hall, 62.5.
Women: best yellow belly - Tanya Crisp, 56.5 cms; Catfish – Tanya Crisp, 62cms; Redfin – Casey Orchard, 36cms.
Junior boys: Cod - Luke Gibson, 72cms; Yellow Belly - Ash Handebo, 62 cms; Catfish - Ash Handebo, 64cms; Redfin - Luke Gibson, 37cms; Silver Perch – Luke Gibson, 39cms.
Junior Girls: Best Yellow Belly was a tie between Mikayla and Hanna Crisp, both recording fish at 60cms. Best Catfish - Talia Crisp, 63cms; Redfin - Hanna Crisp, 38.5. Best other species nominated was a European Carp 54cms Breanna Stuart.
Sub juniors’ species awards went to Ayden Seagrott for a Catfish of 56cm and Ellie Partridge for a carp of 53cms.
The club will have a meeting in the next couple of weeks to organise the 2014 to 2015 Annual Fishing Calendar. There are some great family activities in the planning stages.
Membership to the Royal Hotel Social Fishing Club is open and anyone interested is asked to wander down to the Fisho’s evening at the hotel between 5pm and 7pm any Thursday to join in the frivolity and get tickets in the many meat, vegies, dairy food and soft drink raffles which are run each week.
