“We have a definite 10 teams in the women’s, a definite 10 in the 17s, six in the 15s and so far we have five teams in the 13s and five in the 11s. There are also four teams from Brighter Access as a special tournament within the tournament,” Cup organiser Hein-rich Haussler said. “Hopefully we can increase that number. It looks like we will have over 40 teams. We have the national team from Tonga coming, we have the New Zealanders returning and the Germans returning to defend their title.
“It looks like we will have two teams in the 11s from Inverell and District Soccer Association (IDSA), which will be absolutely great. People should contact Peter Browett from the IDSA to register players for the cup in the different age groups on 0427 210 359.
“We are also catering for kids who play here in Inverell, but haven’t got the numbers to make up a team, we can provide possibilities for them to play in another team.”
He said the cup was still short of volunteers and urged those interested in helping to attend the next meeting on Thursday, at the RSM Club, starting at 6pm.
A film about the cup will also be produced this year by Inverell TAFE film students.
“I’ve had a meeting with Stephanie Marshall and the TAFE students and offered to have them produce the film,” Mr Haussler said.
“There’s some very good, young, talented film makers at the TAFE. We propose a public showing when it is all finished at the RSM Club for the people of Inverell and the business community, so they can all see.”
Mr Haussler said the inspiration for the film came from a similar one made during 2006, when the Australian national team were in Germany.
