Macintyre Lions Club spokesman Chris Lindberg said it was not the first time Lions have banded together in support of the community.

“We often come together on projects and help things out,” he said.

Bears of Hope is a not-for-profit organisation started by Maureen Cunningham, the wife of Lions' district governor Alan Cunningham.

Comfort packs are supplied for families who have recently miscarried or lost a child at birth.

The initiative provides support and information to grieving families and after donations made during Ms Cunningham’s last visit to Inverell, the Lions clubs handed over two packs to the hospital.

“When the district governor came around Maureen brought it up and we made a donation,” Mr Lindberg said.

Ms Cunningham made close to $5000 through the provision of Bears of Hope made by a team of Lions and their partners across the state.

“When the district governor is in (office), their partner always comes up with a project for the clubs to try and get involved with,” Mr Lindberg explained.

The donation packs include vital information for grieving parents, while the bears are later donated on from family to family establishing an invaluable support network.

“When I began this project I had no idea of how successful it would be and of course that is due to the Lions of this district,” Mr Cunningham said.
