A car wash last week was among the students’ fundraising efforts this year, which ended with the presentation of over $9500 to Operation: Operating Room (OOR). With equally comedic and emotional addresses from staff and students, the graduates capped the assembly by presenting the cheque.
OOR chair Di Baker commended the students.
“To think that these students have thought about the impact of where the money is going to go and keeping it local means that every dollar is going to benefit local people and we all know sooner or later we are going to need the hospital,” she said.
“The very fact that they had the community spirit to care about the other members of their community and donate to a charity like OOR is really uplifting because these are the adults of the future and they already have the awareness to think of helping their local community members first.”
Mrs Baker said the funds will be put towards the purchase of new lights for the renal dialysis rooms at the Inverell District Hospital, along with projects to maintain the comfort and service to local patients and staff.
