In a low scoring, nail biter of a game the first points came after a penalty against the Rats.
The Barbarians took the early lead with that shot. The Rats did look dangerous when they had the ball, but the Barbarians defence held time again. Finally, in the 15th minute, Willie Price darted from the back of the scrum for the only try in the game. Jay Fletcher slotted the kick and the Rats led 7-3. They held onto this lead for the rest of the first-half.
The second-half started out with another penalty allowing the Barbarians to close the gap to 7-6.
The Barbarians solid defence held out for the penalty that handed them the lead 9-7 with 10 minutes to go. Gwydir were given three opportunities to regain the lead through penalty kicks but they missed and gave the Barbarians the grand final victory 9-7.
Presentation night is this Saturday at the Bingara RSL with tickets available at the club or contact Glenda on 0428 241 599 to book. Entertainment is with local DJ and rocker Steve McGarrity and should be a top night.
