We are very concerned that the Inverell Shire Council is prepared to move forward and commit significant ratepayer funds to a plan without disclosing the full projected costs and without demonstrating how the cost of this project will impact on future Shire Council finances.
Further the Shire Council has not provided any evidence of a cost benefit analysis supporting the need for street beautification and or major changes to the town’s landscape.
NSW Farmers, Inverell are vitally concerned that the TCRP proposed expenditure will put in jeopardy the need for essential future road construction and infrastructure in the district. We consider that these assets are the essential means of connecting agricultural production to markets, as well as the provision of rural services for farmers.
Moreover it is evident that there is a large ground swell of community opposition to the plan, where Inverell Shire Council seems unwilling to appropriately engage the community by either referendum, or holding a public meeting to vote on this very unpopular plan.
