Around 90 veteran golfers from the all point’s of the compass rolled into Inverell rearing to tee-off on Monday, September 29, for the Inverell Veteran Golf Association’s (IVGA) 2014 Week of Golf.
“We were blown away by the town’s presentation and friendliness,” Tournament director Jim Shadlow said after fielding positive feedback from visiting competitors throughout the golfing week.
Inverell golfer Steve Kent topped golfers from as far as the northern and southern borders of New South Wales turned up to contest the event, winning the 54 hole marathon event in the men’s division.
The ladies top honours went to Raymond Terrace golfer Thelma Bartlett.
Kent outdid Queensland golfer Ken Bullock to be named the major winner, while fellow Inverell golfer Alan Browett kept up the local representation on the podium, taking third place.
Hosting IVGA members reported excellent conditions for the week long event and said visitors were outspoken in their praise for the tournament and community, with many promising to return for next year’s golf week.
