GOOD fields and fine weather are anticipated for Inverell’s family race day on Saturday featuring the draw of the Holy Trinity Art Union. Jockey Club secretary Leanne Brown said the club was more than pleased to have 48 runners in the five races.

Support has come from trainers as far away as Ipswich, Grafton, Goondiwindi and Tamworth.
Miss Brown said “The committee and trainers had a working bee on Sunday on the track and about 30 millimetres of rain fell in a storm on Monday night
“So it freshened up the racing surface and public area to be quite green despite the dry conditions,” she said.
“Admission is free to anyone with a ticket in the Holy Trinity Art Union, and there will be children’s rides, novelties, entertainment and the fashion parade after the last race before the Art Union draw at the end of the day.”
Two horses Modest Option and Dreamonde will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s results. They both won races at last year’s Caulfield Cup day meeting, but this year they clash in the last race, the Thomas Davis Brown Benchmark 50 over 1200 metres.
The race is also a rematch between Espionage and Inverell trained Fault Lion, which led all the way to win when they last met at Bundarra on Cup day a fortnight ago.
The Topbuild Benchmark 45 run over 1400 metres sees 12-time winner Rhodonite burdened with a massive 64 kilograms, so Armidale trainer Lea Selby has engaged apprentice Adam Sewell to claim a three kilogram allowance. The big weight will make it difficult against locals Mr Giggles, who ran well at Bundarra, and A Long Way who is backing up after running third at Grafton on Tuesday.
In Race 3, the Vivier Boutique/Sutton Insurance Maiden over 1400 metres the interestingly named Spaghetti Junction gets a chance to win its first race from 29 starts. It has been placed seven times in much stronger races than Saturday’s, so seems due for a change of luck.
Racing will commence on a sombre note on Saturday when the industry shows its respect for the two young jockeys killed in falls at Rockhampton and Murray Bridge in one week.
