The incident occurred on the Elsmore Road when the man, who was driving, lost control of the Ford performance vehicle, which rolled multiple times before colliding with a large gum tree and coming to rest on its roof.
The child was trapped in the vehicle for 40 minutes before members of Volunteer Rescue Association were able cut him from the vehicle.
The child sustained chemical burns to his body.
The driver sustained possible spinal injuries.
Both were airlifted to Tamworth Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
A spokesman for the rescue helicopter said paramedics were flown to the scene.
He said the boy was suffering neck and shoulder injuries, while the man had head and shoulder injuries.
In a separate accident, about 2pm on Thursday, a south-bound semi-trailer carrying cattle rolled after the driver lost control on the Yetman Road about six kilometres south of Graman.
The driver was conveyed to the Inverell Hospital suffering minor injuries, but was released later in the evening.
A number of cattle were killed as a result of the crash and the road was close for about six hours.
Police are investigating the accident.
